Decorating for Spring |
When we think of Spring .... most of us think about Spring Cleaning!Spring is the perfect time to redecorate!Giving your home a facelift is an easy way to feel great about the winter being over, seeing the spring flowers starting to bloom and getting ready for the sweet sounds of summer. "Take your cue from nature ... Spring transforms the earth with it's blossoms, birds singing and general clean up!" says Sonia Weller, a South Simcoe area decorator. 1. Let the outdoors in ... and the indoors out!Open up your windows and doors and get the fresh spring air in. Our homes have been closed up all winter! Smell the buds beginning to open, the crocuses and hyacinths begin to pop up in all kinds of spots in your garden and listen to the return of the birds! Clear off your deck and enjoy the outdoors on the sunny days! Bring in fresh cut flowers from the garden, or go to a nursery and get lilacs, peonies, tulips and put them all over in glass vases! This is a sure sign of Spring! 2. Revitalize your furniture and accessories!Has your home begun to feel tired? Become musty looking? Then change it up. Look at recovering furniture with bright patterns, moving them to another room, or donating them to a worthwhile charity.Change up your accessories one that let more light in! 3. Declutter!Clear off your shelves, table tops, coffee table of everything! After all it's the only way to get everything cleaned. Polish it up ... on glass use water & vinegar, on wood use Murphy's Oil! After you've cleaned it all ... put back only half of what you took off! Or better yet, put totally different accessories and books out! You've looked at those other ones all winter! 4. Lighten up the floor!Take away heavy carpets that have been on the floor keeping your feet warm all winter! Time to let your toes feel the floor or change them up for lighter throw rugs! This will make your rooms feel more open and larger. 5. Colours are light and bright this year!Reds, tangerines and greens are key accent colors this season, Phoenix interior designer Sherry Hauser says. Change up your drapes to lighter sheers, put away the heavy duvets in the bedrooms and change them with lighter covers in sunshine colours and rich jewel accents. 6. Accessories are a great way to bring in colour and change the mood of a room!Use pillows to change up your room quickly and inexpensively. This year's looks include bold flowers in pinks, creams, and greens! These can be used in any room in your home .... put them on your dining room chairs to have a soft cushion, use them in your bedroom to change up the looks, place them on your chairs and sofas to curl up with! 7. Use patterns from different cultures! Some of the cultural patterns are exotic and colourful! Use them in different areas! As a runnner on your sideboard, or on your kitchen table! Chair covers for the patio! Anywhere you'd like a pop of surprize! 8. Wake up your Senses!Whether you use candles (there's a great wickless, flameless candle available) to bring fragrance into your home, fill decorative bowls with fruits of the season or add crisp fabrics you want to wake up your sensual appeal! 9. Enjoy your meals!By using colourful accessories, changing your dinnerware to lighter colours and planning lighter meals you'll be getting ready for summer and enjoying your food more! 10. Use unexpected things as focal points!Have you got seashells that you've picked up on holidays and have them hidden in drawers? Or maybe some other trinkets you've picked up from your travels? This is a good time to put them out ...use clear bowls, vases or plates to display your memories! Take time to enjoy the changing of the season with your family! For more information on how to get your home decorated for Spring ... contact Sonia Weller at sonia@rosehomesolutions.com |
