Decorating for Spring

When we think of Spring .... most of us think about Spring Cleaning!

Spring is the perfect time to redecorate!

Giving your home a facelift is an easy way to feel great about the winter being over, seeing the spring flowers starting to bloom and getting ready for the sweet sounds of summer.

"Take your cue from nature ... Spring transforms the earth with it's blossoms, birds singing and general clean up!" says Sonia Weller, a South Simcoe area decorator.

1.  Let the outdoors in ... and  the indoors out!

Open up your windows and doors and get the fresh spring air in. Our homes have been closed up all winter! Smell the buds beginning to open, the crocuses and hyacinths begin to pop up in all kinds of spots in your garden and listen to the return of the birds!

Clear off your deck and enjoy the outdoors on the sunny days!

Bring in fresh cut flowers from the garden, or go to a nursery and get lilacs, peonies, tulips and put them all over in glass vases! This is a sure sign of Spring!

2.  Revitalize your furniture and accessories!

Has your home begun to feel tired? Become musty looking? Then change it up. Look at recovering furniture with bright patterns, moving them to another room, or donating them to a worthwhile charity.Change up your accessories one that let more light in!

3.  Declutter!

Clear off your shelves, table tops, coffee table of everything! After all it's the only way to get everything cleaned.  Polish it up ... on glass use water & vinegar, on wood use Murphy's Oil!

After you've cleaned it all ... put back only half of what you took off! Or better yet, put totally different accessories and books out! You've looked at those other ones all winter!

4.  Lighten up the floor!

Take away heavy carpets that have been on the floor keeping your feet warm all winter! Time to let your toes feel the floor or change them up for lighter throw rugs! This will make your rooms feel more open and larger.

5.  Colours are light and bright this year!

Reds, tangerines and greens are key accent colors this season, Phoenix interior designer Sherry Hauser says.

Change up your drapes to lighter sheers, put away the heavy duvets in the bedrooms and change them with lighter covers in sunshine colours and rich jewel accents.

6. Accessories are a great way to bring in colour and change the mood of a room!

Use pillows to change up your room quickly and inexpensively. This year's looks include bold flowers in pinks, creams, and greens!

These can be used in any room in your home .... put them on your dining room chairs to have a soft cushion, use them in your bedroom to change up the looks, place them on your chairs and sofas to curl up with!

7.  Use patterns from different cultures!

Some of the cultural patterns are exotic and colourful! Use them in different areas! As a runnner on your sideboard, or on your kitchen table! Chair covers for the patio! Anywhere you'd like a pop of surprize!

8.  Wake up your Senses!

Whether you use candles (there's a great wickless, flameless candle available) to bring fragrance into your home, fill decorative bowls with fruits of the season or add crisp fabrics you want to wake up your sensual appeal!

9.  Enjoy your meals!

By using colourful accessories, changing your dinnerware to lighter colours and planning lighter meals you'll be getting ready for summer and enjoying your food more!

10. Use unexpected things as focal points!

Have you got seashells that you've picked up on holidays and have them hidden in drawers? Or maybe some other trinkets you've picked up from your travels?

This is a good time to put them out ...use clear bowls, vases or plates to display your memories!

Take time to enjoy the changing of the season with your family!

Why Use a Professional Stager When Selling Your Home?

Want to get the best price for your home and get it sold quickly? Of course you do!

When you put your house on the market to sell, the main purpose is to get it sold for the best price you can get and get it sold quickly. After all, you want to move into that wonderful new home you've bought for your family!House-for-sale

With 80% of buyers searching the internet for homes to look at, you need your photos to show off your house's best features! You need your house to look AWESOME in those pictures!

Things like laundry in the hallway, dishes on the kitchen table or in the sink and a paint colour that screams back at you, will turn off the majority of potential buyers. While some homeowners believe "It's only stuff. They can look past it!" the reality is that buyers see these things as extensions of how the rest of the house is looked after and subconciously take your home off their potential list of ones to see.

You want your home to be remembered ... but not for the negative things!

You want the WOW factor to be memorable areas in your home ... that fabulous fireplace, large looking master bedroom (even though it's not), and the great games room (the one where you used to store your hockey equipment).

Professional Stagers help your Realtor market your home to sell! They make sure the WOW is seen in the photos and in real life.

MoneyImagine investing $300 and getting a $5,00-$10,000 return on it! Read on to find out why!

Buyers look at about 10-15 houses, spend about 10 minutes in each one and look over a 3-4 week period for a new home! You need to have your home stay as a positive memory in their trek!

Moving is one of the most stressful things that we do in our lives! You're trying to get organized to move, packing, ensuring that all the bits and pieces are done, keeping your kids in all their activities, doing your job outside the home AND trying to get your house ready to show! Professional Stagers help destress this busy time for you by helping you get what NEEDS to get done to have our house in top shape to show. We know what Buyers are looking for.

Professional Stagers are trained to show off your home's best features and camouflage the others.... just like your Realtor is trained in selling your home or finding another one for you! Each of us have our strengths! With the best features being shown off, your Realtor can ask for a higher sale price!

Most Stagers will give you a Consultation and let you know what the top items are that need to get done for your house to be sold! For far less then you may think, you can get quite a return on your investment! Often for as little as a couple cans of paint, some cleaning materials and moving your furniture into better position, can increase your asking price!

Buyers want homes that are move-in ready! In most cases, this does not mean builder beige, or white throughout the house! A mother  of 2 or 3 kids would automatically think "I'm going to have trouble keeping this clean." A well decorated home sells!

Buyers want to see space in homes, but they don't want to see a clinical look! It leaves them cold!  Getting the happy medium is the Stagers job!

Decluttering is an art! You don't want to remove too much, but you need to take away enough so that the family coming to see your house, can feel themselves in it! It's emotional ... remember when you saw the home you're moving into? You fell in love with it! You want the same thing to happen to the buyer who is going to move into your house!

They need to be able to see their family pictures on the walls, the child's certificate hanging on the bedroom door and their Grandmother's collection of china in their dining room! That means you need to remove yours! (Besides it's also a safety factor. Do you really want a stranger to know the little Sara is going to Karate classes on Thursday night at the arena?)

A Professional Stager will go through your home with you and make recommendations on what should be done. Remember they are a neutral party and will be honest about what should be looked after. You love your pets, but someone may be allergic to cats so they shouldn't be able to smell the litter (or even see it)! You often don't notice aromas in your own home ... that's natural ... so don't be offended when the Stager tells you about it!

They'll usually can recommend cleaners, painters, handymen, etc. for you if you don't have someone to call!

A Professional Stager can provide you with a simple consultation, help you with parts of the project and keep you accountable and on track with occasional follow up visits, or take over the whole process of getting your house to market! They work within your budget and your timeframe!
